Zimbabwe vs Afghanistan 2nd ODI Highlights: Afghanistan Seal Series with 8-wicket win

8:37 p.m. HST: That’s all we have of this unbalanced game. The last ODI is Thursday, June 9, 2022 at 12:45 p.m. IST (7:15 a.m. GMT). You can join us in advance for assembly. Until then, it’s goodbye and congratulations!

8:37 p.m. HST: Ibrahim Zadran (120*) is the Player of the Match! The fly-half said he wanted to play his natural game. Adds that the partnership with Rahmat was wonderful and he really enjoys playing with him. Mentions that they got 20 points in Super League and they want to play positive cricket to win the next match as well.

8:40 p.m. HST: Hashmatullah Shahidi, the captain of Afghanistan, says he is very happy with the victory and the performance of his team so far. Adds that they wanted to get all 30 points from this tour and will be aiming for 10 more in the next game. When asked to make changes to his winning XI for the next game, Shahidi replies that he will think about it in the coming days.

8:36 p.m. HST: Craig Ervine, the Zimbabwe captain, says they knew the ground was flattening in the afternoon and that’s why getting partnerships was important. Feels they had a reasonable start but didn’t kick off afterwards. Sharing that this pitch was much better than the first game and 260-270 would have been competitive. Emphasizes getting partnerships and that is where they need to work.

8:25 p.m. HST: See you soon for the presentation…

8:25 p.m. HST: Earlier in the game, Fazalhaq Farooqi was exceptional with the new ball and had plenty of movement. Zimbabwe stuttered at first but then bounced back thanks to a few partnerships. Innocent Kaia, Sikandar Raza and Ryan Burl played practical shots, but the innings lacked the overall momentum to post a tough total on the board.

8:24 p.m. HST: Zimbabwe were listless with the ball, and they weren’t very good with their pitch either. Yet another disappointing outing for them. On a surface that had a thing for the point guards, especially with the new ball, Blessing Muzarabani and Tendai Chatara couldn’t find enough to bother the batters, and the rest of the bowlers also struggled for pace and penetration. Lots of work to do for the hosts to improve their game in both facets of the game.

8:27 p.m. HST: Pursuing a sub-par target, the Afghans lost Rahmanullah Gurbaz for another low score, but Ibrahim Zadran and Rahmat Shah beat positively and helped Afghanistan sail through Powerplay 1 with no more damage. The number of boundaries the Afghan batters scored early in the innings was the main highlight, and that, in a way, never allowed Zimbabwe to exert any pressure. Subsequently, the duo put up a record-breaking stand for the second wicket and put the chase to bed. Zadran notched his first ODI cent in the process, but Rahmat missed yet another ton on that tour, this time by 12 points.

8:22 p.m. HST: Easy victory for Afghanistan. A bit boring from a competitive perspective, but certainly imposing from an Afghanistan perspective. Another 10 points for them, and they have cemented their place at number 3 on the 2020-2022/23 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup table.

10:20 p.m. HST: 44.3: Tendai Chatara to Ibrahim Zadran, Full length, on off. Ibrahim Zadran hits him halfway. The outfielder fumbles which allows the batters to cross for a single. It’s Ibrahim Zadran with the winning run. What an incredible move on his part! AFGHANISTAN WINS BY 8 WICKETS.

10:21 p.m. HST: 44.2: Tendai Chatara to Ibrahim Zadran, Full length, on off. Zadran blocks it at the back stitch.

10:21 p.m. HST: 44.1: Tendai Chatara to Hashmatullah Shahidi, A-length ball, on off. Shahidi stamps it to score a single.
