‘SEAL Team’ Renewed For Season 6 By Paramount+ – Deadline

The David Boreanaz-directed SEAL Team will be back for another round on Paramount+. Streamer ViacomCBS has renewed the military drama series for a 10-episode sixth season.

That makes it 2 for 2, with the two CBS drama series that moved from CBS to Paramount+ in May, Wrong and SEAL Teamearning pickups for another season as Paramount+ Originals.

The decision is not a surprise. In Paramount+’s 2021 year-end report on its top performers of original content, the streamer revealed that the most-watched original drama series on the platform was SEAL Teamfollowed by Wrong. (Paramount+ ranks drama Star Trek: Discovery a science fiction series.)

Both series had previously done well on Paramount+/CBS All Access while airing on CBS; their transition to streaming-only appears to have attracted loyal viewers from the broadcast network, which had been the goal of the move.

“What we’ve been able to see is great engagement and subscriber activations coming to SEAL Team first when they sign up for Paramount+, so we’re really happy with the results,” Tanya Giles, Programming Director of Paramount+ said during the streamer part of TCA. “He’s one of our best performers in the originals, so we know the fan base was amazing.e to find the show and find Paramount+.

ViacomCBS has been aggressive in switching platforms and creating Paramount+, as also evidenced by the moves of Younger and Halo from TV Land and Showtime, respectively, to the streamer as well as the decision to put all post-Yellowstone Taylor Sheridan series on Paramount+.

SEAL Team and Wrong’CBS’ successful relocation to Paramount+ is encouraging news for CBS series creators whose shows may be on the bubble. There are no obvious new targets at this time, as most CBS dramas draw solid linear audiences (barring newcomers Good Samfor which there is not enough data yet, and initially Taurus). Still, if the broadcast network brass were to run out of real estate when crafting the fall 2022 schedule, a move to Paramount+ is now a realistic option for a show as recently renewed. Expert: Vegas, whose strength lies primarily in deferred viewing and streaming, or TO CRUSH

That’s if a deal can be made. Evil, SEAL Team – as good as Expert: Vegas – are produced by CBS Studios, making it easy to transition from one ViacomCBS outlet to another. Other CBS series, like TO CRUSH, are co-productions, which is a complicating factor. Last Year, CBS Freshman Drama Claire had been picked up by Paramount+, but the move fell through after a deal with co-producer MGM could not be reached. (CBS Studios co-production agreement with Sony TV on TO CRUSH is supposed to be so lucrative for CBS that it’s allowed the series to sail through network renewals thus far.)

Adaptations of “Flashdance”, “Urban Cowboy” and more in the works at Paramount+

Season 6 will be SEAL Teamis the shortest to date. The series, which moved to Paramount+ for its fifth season after four seasons on CBS, produced 16 to 22 episodes per season on CBS. Season 5 featured 14 episodes – four that premiered on broadcast networks and 10 that launched exclusively on Paramount+. Season 6’s 10-episode order is in line with the typical streaming season length.

SEAL Team follows the professional and personal lives of the most elite unit of the Navy SEALs as they train, plan and execute the most dangerous and important missions our country can ask of them. Max Thieriot, Neil Brown Jr., AJ Buckley and Toni Trucks are also featured.

The renewal follows the Season 5 finale on January 23, which ended in a big cliffhanger as Bravo found itself under missile attack in Mali.

“We are very happy to welcome SEAL Team back for another season on Paramount+,” said Nicole Clemens, President of Paramount+ Original Scripted Series. “The show’s loyal fan base has followed the series into its exclusive new home, and it’s proven to be a strong performing title for the service, consistently making it into the top 10 most-watched original series. We can’t wait.” let fans see what our brilliant creative team has in store for Team Bravo next season.

SEAL Team is produced by CBS Studios and produced by Spencer Hudnut, Christopher Chulack, Sarah Timberman, Carl Beverly, Mark Owen and David Boreanaz.
