Max Thieriot: Team SEAL star prepares Cal Fire drama for CBS

The SEAL team may have left CBS for Paramount +, but one of its stars remains in business with the Eye Network.

According to Deadline, Max Thieriot is developing Cal Fire, a new series based on “Thieriot’s experiences who grew up in northern California and stems from an original idea by the actor.”

The series follows a young convict named Bode Donovan, who seeks to redeem himself and reduce his prison sentence.

He joins a firefighting program that takes him back to his hometown in Northern California.

The show finds Bode and other inmates working alongside firefighters to protect the area from fires.

Jerry Bruckheimer (CSI), and husband-and-wife duo Tony Phelan and Joan Rater (Council of Dads, Grey’s Anatomy) are also involved in the series.

It’s unclear whether Thieriot would star in the project due to his commitments to SEAL Team, but the latter’s move to streaming could free the star to take on other projects when the series is not filming.

With its move to Paramount +, SEAL Team is running a shortened season of 14 episodes this season, but the reduced episode order may be due to COVID-19.

Season 6 of Team SEAL, if it gets a formal green light, could have more episodes.

Thieriot has appeared in a series of successful television series, including Bates Motel and Texas Rangers.

CBS has been the home of proceedings for decades. These shows still work well for the network, so it makes sense that they want more.

This isn’t the only series of first responders in preparation for CBS.

NCIS: Eric Christian Olsen of Los Angeles is the executive producer of Rescue: MIA.

First responder shows are coveted by networks these days due to the success of NBC’s One Chicago Universe and FOX’s 9-1-1 franchise.

Rescue: MIA takes place in Miami and follows a family of first responders who work together to keep everyone safe in Miami.

Long-buried secrets are revealed that threaten to sever their family ties.
