In a battle of captains, Team USA fall to Great Britain in men’s curling semi-final

After Great Britain shut out the first end, Team USA made them pay for that call in the second. Mouat tried to pull out two American rocks atop the house on GBR’s penultimate rock but missed and sent his own rock all the way through the house.

Shuster then placed the final rock for USA at the top of the 4-foot circle. Mouat tried to round the rocks for a draw and a single point in the hammer throw, but he missed the cross, allowing the United States to steal two and come back early, 2-1.

It was Shuster who made the throwing errors in the third. The American captain missed a back attempt on the penultimate pitch and only got one on a double out attempt on the last pitch, allowing Mouat to simply draw the last GBR stone into the house for three points and the team’s first lead. of the game, 3-2.

In a crowded house with stones tight around the button, Mouat delivered an excellent last stone to sit in the middle, but Shuster delivered a better stone, hitting it for two for USA and the lead to the right, 4-3.

Shuster took out on USA’s last pitch and left Mouat with an extremely difficult out with a back-of-the-house rock behind a guard and in front of a GBR rock.

It was no problem for Mouat, whose shot tapped the American rock at the perfect angle to knock it out while avoiding hitting Britain’s back rock, giving GBR an extra two points and the advance at the break, 5-4.

Consecutive shutouts in the sixth and seventh allowed the United States to keep the hammer in the eighth.

GBR got a huge double cross out on the fifth pitch of the eighth, and the United States Chris Plys answered with a double out on his side on the next pitch.

From there, USA, realizing it was unlikely to get two or more runs, pledged to just keep the house clean and erase a third straight inning to enter the still-late ninth innings. ‘a.

Mouat placed his last rock just above the only sitting rock in the United States and at an angle that made it impossible to pull back. Shuster could be heard on the show saying he had no choice but to throw the last rock and sacrifice a steal from Great Britain to keep the hammer for his side in the tenth.

The US entered the last end with a 6-4 lead.

It felt like Team USA ran out of gas in the tenth. A shot missed by Matt Hamilton and another bad throw from Plys left the house wide open for Great Britain, and GBR filled it happily.

Shuster needed another incredible shot on the last stone of the tenth, but he couldn’t do it. His hammer throw crossed the open harbor but rolled too far, allowing Great Britain to steal two and seal victory.
