Frenkie de Jong flew to Miami with Barcelona on Saturday night but the Catalan club still want to sell the midfielder to Manchester United.
The 25-year-old Dutch international is determined to stay in Spain, but Barcelona have agreed a £63m + £8.5m fee with United and want De Jong to cut the wage bill quickly so that they can register new signatures.
Barcelona have already introduced four new players this summer, including the signing of Brazilian Raphinha from Leeds.

And on Saturday they agreed the £42.5million arrival of Robert Lewandowski from Bayern Munich, and the club are still keen to sign defender Cesar Azpilicueta from Chelsea.
But to register the new acquisitions with LaLiga, they need to cut their wage bill by €560m (£477m). De Jong’s contract entitles him to €20m (£17m) next season and the club need him to move on.
He has so far resisted their attempts to force him out but Barcelona hope the situation can change before the transfer window closes at the end of next month.
As reported by sports mail Earlier this week, United’s Richard Arnold and John Murtough traveled to Spain to agree a deal with Barca sporting director Jordi Cruyff, director of football Mateu Alemany and vice-president of sport Rafa Yuste.
Bayern meanwhile have made it clear that they have no interest in signing unstable United ace Cristiano Ronaldo.
The Portuguese has been linked with the German giants among other clubs but Bayern sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic has once again denied that this is happening.
He said: “I have a lot of respect for Cristiano Ronaldo, his successes and his career. But again, that was and is not a topic for us.

Barcelona have taken a 28-man squad for their tour of the United States, which includes new signings Raphinha, Franck Kessie and Andreas Christensen.
Raphinha finally joined Barca this week after an extended move that almost saw the Brazilian sign for Chelsea before securing the £55million transfer to Spain which he described as his dream move.
As for Lewandowski, a fee of £42m has been agreed with the German giants and the Polish star is set to fly out on Sunday to seal the move.
There could also be other exits through the Nou Camp door, with Martin Braithwaite, Samuel Umtiti, Oscar Mingueza, Riqui Puig and Neto all left out of the pre-season squad as they are apparently not part of the plans. xavi.
The Spanish giants are due to play four games during their tour of the United States, including a clash with David Beckham’s Inter Miami, glamorous matches with Real Madrid in Las Vegas and Juventus in Dallas before finishing with a game against the New York Red Bulls.
