Babar and Imam seal series victory after Pakistan quick clash
After a month of Australia putting Pakistan to work for every run, wicket and win, here comes the exception to the rule. In a rare lackluster performance, Australia found themselves blown away with a dominating display as they were crushed by nine wickets to seal a 2-1 series victory at Lahore in their day and night game on Saturday.
It came thanks to a fast and fiery bowling performance and an undefeated 190-point partnership between Babar Azam and Imam-ul-Haq. Pakistan had put Australia at bat, knocking them out inside 42 overs for 210 before doing light work on that target on a feather bed of a surface, with Imam and Babar returning an Aussie bowling attack inexperienced particularly toothless. An unbeaten 105 from Babar, his second consecutive cent, and an unbeaten 89 from Imam helped Pakistan to a nine-wicket victory with 73 balls to spare.
Australia knew it was coming, yet it seemed impossible to stop it. A sensational – yet almost predictable – first by Shaheen Shah Afridi got rid of Travis Head, delivering a blow to Australia that left them groggy throughout the innings, and Haris Rauf took out Aaron Finch before the Australia is irrelevant.
Pakistan: 214 for 1,37.5 overs (Babar 105, Imam 89*)
Australia: 210 in 41.5 overs (Carey 56, Abbott 49, Rauf 3/39, Wasim 3/40) (Agencies)
